As was revealed by Google Program Manager Stephanie Saad Cuthbertson, at the Google IO developer conference today, Android Studio will henceforth treat Kotlin as the premium language on the platform. Kotlin was added just 2 years but since then, it seems that almost 50% of Android developers have adopted it. The announcement also came with a direct on stage recommendation from Google on the opening of Google IO.
Kotlin is now also the de facto recommended language for the android platform, said Chet Haase the Chief advocate for Android at Google.
JetBrains have their sights also set on making Kotlin a full replacement for Javascript, on the client side of things, either as a full replacement technology with Web-assembly or with transpiling* to Javascript.
Google is also partnering with JetBrains on a non-profit organization to further develop and support this technology.
This is huge news for all of us that support and work with Kotlin and shows that the future of the language will be bright, both as a tool to developers and as a valuable platform for businesses.
